LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are highly energy-efficient lighting devices (currently the most efficient lights) that can convert up to 90% of the energy consumed into visible light.

The central and state Govts. of India is taking several initiatives to make energy efficient and thus cost-effective, and in the process reducing carbon emissions. LED Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) has installed over 1.32 crore smart LED streetlights, resulting in expected annual energy savings of 6.97 billion kWh, and 6.1 million tCO2 reductions as of April 2023.
